Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

So I figured I should put up a little bit of an update. Its been a while since I have written on here, but since things were supposed to slow down after camp was over I figured I would have more time. Well things haven't slowed down all that much. I am off and rolling as the youth pastor of Glacierview Bible Church, and things are going well there. We have had a couple of weeks of youth group as well as Sunday school. As of right now we are lumping all of the youth from Jr. High to high school and as soon as hunting season is over we should have around 15 youth. Its a great group, and a great size to work with. I am also teaching the high school Sunday school class which also includes an 8th grade boy. That's fun as well. We are working our way through the Gospel of John.

There are a couple of things that have really been a surprise to me since camp has been over. The culture of Alaska is far different than in Michigan. First of all it is not a good idea to plan any youth group events during moose hunting season. Most of the youth, including almost all the girls missed out on Sunday school because they were busy hunting. They ditch school and put everything else of life on hold to go try and kill a moose. They came back with some good stories though. The other big change that I have noticed about Alaska is the fact that Fall happens really early around here. The leaves all turn yellow, not yellow, orange, red, purple like the leaves in Michigan. They also fall off the trees really fast, and when on the ground everything smells like I just stepped in some of our dogs feces. Oh and it snowed this morning. Not high up on the mountains like it has been doing all summer, but in our back yard. I'm sure it will be gone as soon as the sun comes up, but it snowed, and its September.

All and all things are going well here, Chelsea is working now, and is really enjoying being out of the house. I am keeping very busy working here at camp as well as at church, and tank is loving the moose scraps that Doug brought over for him to much on. God has been blessing us greatly, and we can attribute it to the many prayers you have all said for us. Thanks.

Hello Meeuwsens!! I just read your post and I had to make a comment on the weather. You said it snowed on Monday and that was a big deal for September. (I agree, that is a big deal!) Now, I just have to share my weather experiences with you...this week it has been in the upper 80s and lower 90s...and it's September! That's crazy for September! At least for me, a girl from small town northern Indiana. This makes me think...how awesome is our God that he made the world so intricate and with so much variety that on the same day it can snow in one part of the world and be 90 degrees in another part?! Amazing! I hope you guys are doing well up there in the "blizzard". ;) Miss you!
