Okay, so I haven't updated in a few months so I guess i have a bit to write to catch everyone up.
Winter up here in Alaska has been fairly mild (knock on wood) We have stayed about zero for the majority of the time and this weekend we got about 9 inches of fresh snow! It hadn't really snowed much since Christmas, so we are thankful for the extra beautiful blanket that is now covering all of our tracks we had made!
I have officially broken out my snowshoes and both Aaron and I have had the chance to enjoy a pair of sleds (snowmobiles/snowmachines) that my parents lent to us. It is great to get out in God's creation and to be reminded of what a beautiful place we live in.
We are gaining daylight very fast these days. We get an average of about 6 minutes a day and have light from 9:00 to 5:30 in the evening. This is a welcome change, and I am pretty excited to get it all the way back.
Other things that have happened since our last post... We went down to visit Michiganders for a couple of weeks over Christmas. We had an opportunity to hang out with Aaron's side of the family and reconnect with friends and supporters. It is always fun to share with people about life in Alaska and answer some of the questions they come up with!
That gets you about caught up with life for now...
In Sunday school at church we teach the jr high and high school class. We are currently going through a book by Francis Chan call "Crazy Love" if you have not had an opportunity to read this I highly recommend it. Not only are our youth going through it, but the pastor has started a few mens groups to go through the study too.... it is a good book for all ages.
In this book we just finished the third chapter titled "Crazy Love". I mention it because it really challenged me. It took God's love and compared it to our father's love. I know it is pretty clique, but it reminded me that I should yearn to be in God's presence and spend time with him in the same way that I love to be in my dad's presence. It brought back great memories of the things I use to do with my dad, not necessarily because I loved doing those things (like plowing or towing cars) but because I just loved being with my dad. I have been really working on my life and heart and am trying to get back in that place where every moment spent with God is treasured and I can't wait to return to that place. A time where He easily flits through my thoughts and I let Him amaze me be who He is... If you haven't read this book, again I encourage you to pick it up and read it... i'm only on chapter three, but I know it has already started to make an impact!

haha. when you said "we get 6 minutes a day", i thought that was how much daylight you got total at first! i was like, "dang, that must really suck." glad it's not true. :)
no... sorry for the confusion... we gain about 6 minutes a day... so we are quickly passing the rest of the world in our daylight time...
