Well the majority of camp is officially over. This week we didn't have a normal crew of campers come in, we opened the camp up for family camp. So the "campers" on ground are anywhere from infants to adults. It is fun. Aaron is not doing much with family camp though, he had a vision last year to start a new camp called Wilderness camp and pilot it this week. So he is off on adventures with him, 4 other staff, and 7 campers. They have a week planned of camping, hiking, surviving, and cooking over fires.
Today he took the group to hike up a mountain behind camp called Anthracite. He has hiked once before on his own, and a couple of others in the group have hiked it before. I don't know how high it is, but I will try and post pictures once they get back of them on top... (and Aaron will probably want to brag about how high it is). Tonight they camp out at Alpine campout and cook their own breakfast. In the next few days they will go to the Matanuska Glacier to explore, Hike and camp at Hick's creek, Go cliff jumping at Hidden lake, and build shelters to sleep in. I think it'll be a fun week of camp, and I am excited to see if this is a program that Aaron will get to do in the future too.
After Saturday, we say goodbye to the few remaining staff that are still here, and Aaron and my life should slow down a bit more. We have a week of Luthern Camp (the Luthern Churches of AK rent out our facility and do their own camp) which Aaron will Lifeguard for, and we have Grace coming shortly after that. We hope to sneak out of here between Luthern Week and Grace to get a chance to do some last minute camping before snow starts to fly and we add to the Meeuwsen numbers.
